Week 6!!

Hello end of week 6! A week from today we will be moving back home. It will be a mad dash to get the house ready for the Irvin 5 and their trusty dog to move back in. Will they make it? Will it snow 3 feet and the entire area will shut down? Will they decide that commuting back and forth from Short Pump is super fun and they will keep doing it? YES, NO, NO.

Exciting times in the house this week. If fireplaces, steel beams, and Ship Lap get your motor going, just hold on--it's going to get pretty exciting! The electricians came back and really try to light up our lives (get it?), the a/v guys did wiring & some soundproofing, the Plumber (Pat) started running pipes and such to the upstairs bathroom, kitchen, media room wet bar, fireplaces were installed, I picked out more countertops, started the final design of the media room layout, bought lighting and a mirror for the upstairs bathroom, and the ship lap went up.

I originally bought this Medicine Cabinet but we are not going to be able to recess it after all because the stairs are right behind the wall and would have to move a bunch of support, but they sell the exact same one that is not recessed, so I will just exchange it. I bought this Light Fixture to go in there.

The fireplaces were installed. They have to paint the brick black to blend in, put the surrounds in, a mantle upstairs in the family room and redo the surround in the keeping room. Pat is going to hook up the gas to the fireplaces. The logs haven't been installed either. I am very excited about the updated look of them!

Here's the basement. It looks a lot worse down there than this picture shows....

Family room fireplace. The brick will be black, white marble surround, and a new mantle

Ship lap, Ship lap, I love me some Ship Lap! While I was trying to figure out what to do with the ceiling in the keeping room, I kept finding pictures of Ship lap and loving the look. I have no idea it would be such a pain in the butt. But Jim and Christian rocked it out. I did call a friend in a panic telling her I had made a huge mistake and it wasn't lining up. I really thought I had just thrown a bunch of money in the trash, but as more and more went up, the more I loved it. They aren't quite finished. They are going to put some boards at the seams so you can't see where it doesn't match up exactly, and paint it white.

Amazing, right? They did such a great job!

Countertops.....There has got to be a better way! So the one I fell in love with is a bit over budget. Not terrible and we can make it work since we saved money other places, but I would have to give up my waterfall edge which I am not sure I want to do. I went back to Arc to look again. They had a new marble countertop and looked great--great movement, white background, but it was leathered and had a sparkle to it. I am really not sure about the leathered look in the kitchen. Today I went to Marva and found a great Carrara marble that was unlike any I have ever seen--white background, lots of veining, gorgeous. The only problem is, it is polished. They can hone it there, but it will change the look of it. I am assured that it won't change it much, but hard to commit to something when you aren't sure 100% what it will look like. I put a hold on the countertop and I will hope the price comes back within budget and then we will make a decision on what to do. We will probably end up getting the office and media room bar countertop at Arc and the kitchen to be determined. It all goes to the same fabricator so i am able to use different distributors for the marble.

You can see the sparkle of the above marble

Another Brazilian white marble

The next two are the ones I saw today. The White Carrara Marble that is polished but I would have it honed. I need 3 slabs of this for our kitchen, these slabs were at least 6 inches taller than me. I was amazed at how white the background was and how much veining they have. I loved it! Hoping it is within budget!

The media room got a lot done that I can't really see. Wiring mostly. The black sheets on the floor and walls is the first layer of soundproofing. Over this will go two layers of drywall with special glue that never dries to it helps absorb sound. It is really dark in there right now because there are not lights or windows!

Here is how dark the hallway is now without lights. The left hand side is the media room

Beams, beams, beams! I have been waiting for these 3 guys. It might not look like much, but these 3 beams are very important in my life. They will hold me up...well, hold the house up, but you know what I mean. The left hand side are two wooden beams that will go in the basement and the red one on the right is a steel beam for the kitchen. The framers were coming today and will work over the weekend. Once the beams are in, we start drywall!

The bathroom got a little work done too!

New bathtub. It will be flipped around and go against the back wall. The bathroom is really small to make room for the media room bar. Don't tell the kids they got screwed!

Various holes in the floor to whisk away various things that happen in the bathroom

Drywall! Next week this will start getting hung

Exposed pipes for the bathroom above.

Another great week! I am looking forward to being home next week. I will miss having a full kitchen, but really looking forward to being back in our home. It will be wonderful not to have the baby in the car for many hours a day. Nice to be able to spend time doing things with the kids instead of driving. Send me your toaster oven and crock pot recipes!
