Week 7!!

Imagine playing the lotto and your numbers are 3-7-14-18-23 and the winning numbers are 4-6-13-19-24. You go back to the store and explain to the nice attendant that you were so close to winning that surely they can make an exception, but they shoo you out of the store and tell you to take a hike. That's how I am feeling about our move back to our house tomorrow. 30 days ago we picked tomorrow's date to move home. Oh so close to having our basement ready, but not quite there.  The basement is a mess I tell you, a mess. The bedrooms are the only livable space in the house right now so we will pretend we live in a big fancy city and are studio dwellers. It will be an adventure...right?

This week was another boring exciting week of plumbing and electrical work. All the plumbing for the bathroom and kitchen was complete and all of the electrical work was finished. The inspections were completed and we got a perfect report! The beams went in and the last of the walls came down in the kitchen. The mudroom walls had some boards put up and we even have a door to the garage. The windows we are losing in the family room were covered up on the screened porch. I picked countertops, our vanity was delivered, and I ordered carpet. It is starting to come together. The basement will be drywalled first thing Monday morning and we should be able to use it Tuesday. That's only a few days of living in our bedrooms. We can do it...we can do it...WE CAN DO IT...right, it's doable...right?!?  What's that you say? You want to see pictures of our plumbing? Sure, I thought you'd never ask.

Plumbing from the upstairs bath

The wall even more exposed and more plumbing. The orange stuff is fire block-pretty cool

Kitchen plumbing. The new gas line is here for the new gas range

The lights in the playroom off of Liam's room were put in and the ceiling fan was moved to be centered over the windows.  5 can lights were added too.

We had to replace our fireplaces because they were not vented. Here is the new venting of the fireplaces.
Basement vent

The black chimney is the family room vent

The mudroom got some walls up so you can see the expansion a bit better. We will add built ins for all the crap stuff we all have!

A door!!

Originally, I was going to build a bench in the foyer, but have decided not to. I found these at williams and sherrill, but they are a bit "Vegas" with the silver detail. We are going to order something similar in a fun color like this. It will serve as a bench, but also can pull into another room for extra seating.

Here's the basement: It looks even worse in person.

They had to take this cabinet down to get to the plumbing. All the alcohol is sitting out everywhere...

Even though the house is not ready for our arrival, we are so excited to get home and back to our side of town. I will not miss the drive! I cannot wait to share what the house will look like next week with all the dry wall done! The floors will be refinished while we are in Hawaii seeing Natalie and JJ!

  1. I feel both your pain and your joy as we dealt with similar situations during our reno. I finally had to tell Wayne I was sick of living with 3 men, that they had to finish and leave!!
